In 2015 the pub was placed at number three in the prestigious Morning Advertiser Top 50 Gastropub Awards, sponsored this year by Estrella Damm. In both 2013 and 2014, it was placed at number four.
This year it was behind only the Michelin-starred Sportsman in Kent, which also took the top slot last year. |At number three this year is the Star at Harome, where Pipe and Glass chef/owner James Mackenzie was previously head chef, and with which the Pipe and Glass retains strong links.
James, who runs the Pipe and Glass with his wife Kate, said: “We’re thrilled to be flying the flag for Yorkshire, with Andrew Pern at the Star at Harome right there beside us.
“And I know we’ve said it before, but we can’t say it enough – we couldn’t do any of this without our fantastic and supportive team at the Pipe and Glass.”
James and Kate took over the Pipe and Glass in 2006. It has held its Michelin star since 2010, and was also Good Food Guide National Dining Pub of the Year for 2015.
The Top 50 Gastropubs Awards are organised by industry magazine The Publican’s Morning Advertiser, and are judged by a Voting Academy including gastropub operators (who can’t vote for their own pubs), food writers, pubco catering development managers and executive chefs, celebrity and top hospitality industry chefs, pub guide editors, industry chiefs and food operators – as their website says: “This really is the industry’s choice.”
